Hello Pipits!
This SUNDAY afternoon we will drive the country backroads of Haldimand County.
Haldimand is a premier winter destination for birders. Because its wide-open pastures resemble an arctic tundra, January and February bring incredible viewings of overwintering raptors, including Short-eared Owls, Rough-legged Hawks, and Northern Harriers.
On this trip we will look for winter finches such as Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, and Lapland Longspurs; various hawks including Rough-legged Hawks; waterfowl along the shoreline of Lake Erie including Tundra Swans; and around dusk we will watch for hunting Short-eared Owls.
