Hello Pipits!

This SATURDAY we will be going to Colonel Samuel Smith Park, to meet up with Jean Iron and crew on Whimbrel Watch at Whimbrel Point! Jean will hopefully tell us a bit about this fantastic monitoring and research project. We'll stay and watch for Whimbrels for several hours with this group of observers, before we wander off through the remainder of the park looking for other migrants. If you have a lightweight folding chair you may want to bring it for the Watch component of the morning.

A bit about Jean: "Jean Iron of Toronto has a special interest in shorebirds. She has attended the Whimbrel Watch at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto for the last 15 years. She does shorebird identification workshops at Point Pelee's Festival of Birds in May and for birding clubs. Her passion for shorebirds has taken her to the James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts of Ontario to participate in shorebird surveys for Canadian Wildlife Service and the former Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources."

We will meet at the parking lot nearest the park (at the end of the road) at 5:30am.

My phone number is 289.795.6537. Feel free to call or text me if you need.

Looking forward to seeing those who can attend!
