Hello Pipits!
This Sunday we will visit several trails at Algonquin Park. We'll go through a variety of habitats.
Meet at 8am at the Mizzy Lake Trail parking on Arowhon Road (just off of Highway 60). As a group we will drive in further along Arowhon Rd and park near the backend of Mizzy Lake Trail, past the 3 way split of Arowhon Rd.
NOTE THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE AT THIS LOCATION
OR ALONG AROWHON ROAD NORTH OF HWY 60
We will visit Wolf Howl Pond, and West Rose Pond on the Mizzy Lake trail via this route which takes us to an old railway bed so the walking is flat into this part of the trail. If you are late get in touch with me asap, DO NOT start hiking at the Mizzy Lake trail parking lot, it's 11km or so long and we'll be at the far end of the loop.
We will also visit the Visitor Centre, Spruce Bog trail, and possibly the Lookout trail. These are scenic trails, but there is good chance for birds we don’t see down south. These include Spruce Grouse, Black Backed Woodpecker, among warblers and other songbirds. Fall migration will be close at this point in the summer. We may possibly see some later summer flowering orchids, I know of several locations in the park for these.
Look forward to seeing folks on this beautiful trip to the near North!
