Hello Pipits!

This Saturday we will be going to Simcoe County!

The Piping Plover eggs are anticipated to hatch around this time, so with luck we'll see some little fluffy chicks running around the beach!

Let's meet at the parking lot nearest the Piping Plover Nesting Area at 8am.

From there we will take a tour through some of the best areas for birding in Simcoe County, with Geordie and perhaps a few of his friends from the area!

We plan to make stops at Lawson Line, by the bridge; we will be here for up to half hour or so. We will look for Black Tern, Common Gallinulle, Virginia Rail, Marsh Wren, and other marsh birds.

Then we will drive 2 km to the Cowan Trail. This is a flat even trail. The full loop is 1.5 km. Bring boots as it might be muddy! We will look for Blue Winged and Golden Winged Warblers, Willow Flycatcher, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, and a variety of sparrows and marsh birds.

Then we drive to Towerline Road, and make our way along the 8 km stretch.

Here we will look for Prairie Warbler, Eastern Towhee, and other forest edge birds, and perhaps see some reptiles such as Massassauga Rattlesnakes.

If time and interest allow, there is another trail a bit south from here we can walk; and if rarities are reported we can alter our plans to fit these in.

Looking forward to seeing those who can attend!
